Why Most “Early Readers” Are Too Hard
Have you ever handed a beginner reader a book labeled “Level A” or "Niveau 1" only to watch them struggle with almost every word? That’s because many early readers—especially ones designed for French—include:
- Multiple complex sounds on the same page
- Irregular spelling patterns and silent letters
- Too many new vocabulary words
- Reliance on picture clues instead of phonics skills
It’s no wonder students lose confidence fast!
At the beginning of the school year, your students need something different—something that lets them feel like readers from day one.
One Sound at a Time in Your French Decodables = Confidence and Fluency
That’s exactly why I created these Super Simple French Decodables.
Each of the 14 mini books in the set focuses on just one complex sound, with a simple, six-page structure that’s easy for students to follow. The goal? To provide bite-sized reading practice that’s approachable and effective—especially for students who are just beginning to read in French or who need extra decoding support.
Here’s how each book works:
1️⃣ Sound Repetition Page
→ Students see and say the target sound three times (e.g., on on on)
2️⃣ Syllable Breakdown Page
→ A new word is introduced (e.g., bonbon), broken down into syllables for blending
3️⃣ Short Sentence Page
→ The word is used in a simple sentence (e.g., Mon bonbon est bon.)
🔁 This pattern repeats with a second word and sentence—keeping things predictable, supportive, and success-focused.
